My 3 Top Tips for Doing Your Makeup When There Is No Time to Do Said Makeup

Some mornings, you have all the time in the world to get ready and beautify. There's time for adding little, random waves into your hair, time for contouring, even time to actually sit down and eat your breakfast instead of scoffing it down on the way to the car.

Most mornings, though, there just isn't that luxury. I don't know about you, but whenever I have to be somewhere early, it's like it doesn't matter what time I wake up — I still won't have enough time to do all the things I want to do. And what suffers for it? My makeup time. Only because I can't justify only getting half dressed or not brushing my teeth in order to have more time to do my makeup.

Over many such rushed mornings, though, I have discovered ways to cut down on makeup application time. It isn't easy. But it's worth it. Ready?

Prioritize

The most important thing to do is to prioritize which products you're going to use and which you wouldn't mind skipping. For me, I immediately leave out products such as highlighter and eyeshadow, because I don't wear those things all the time anyway. Plus, doing a whole eyeshadow look takes way more time than I have.

On the other hand, I know that I can't not wear blush or mascara, so those are a definite must-do. Learn which products you can't go without and do them first. That way, if you have time afterwards, you can swipe on the extra stuff.

I think my general makeup routine in order of necessity is mascara > blush > foundation > bronzer > brow powder > eyeliner > concealer > powder > lipstick > others. Try to work out a general idea of your order of necessity and work accordingly.

Plan what you can do on the go

Sometimes, if I'm in a rush but absolutely can't compromise on my makeup, I'll save products to use on the go. For example, lipstick doesn't necessarily need to be applied in the confines of your bedroom. The amount of times I've swiped on a red lipstick at a traffic light is astounding, but it gets the job done.

I'll also switch out my powder for another finishing product, like Benefit Dr. Feelgood Mattifying Balm, which does the same job, but doesn't require me to carry a big container of powder and even bigger powder brush with me.

If somebody else is driving, I sometimes do most of my makeup in the car. If you do this, though, be sure you aren't going near your eyes, especially while the car is moving. Seriously. If I'm driving, though, I can't really do the majority of my makeup on the go, especially because I drive a manual, but I do what I can where I can.

Double up products

The best time-saver, in my opinion, is doubling up on your products. Using one product for multiple uses saves a lot of extra time. Also, if you do it right, it makes absolutely zero difference when all is said and done.

When I'm in a big rush, I apply my foundation as usual and then, using the same brush (there's not time for swapping out brushes and using specific brushes for specific purposes — let's be real), I apply more foundation onto the areas that need concealing, eliminating the need for concealer entirely. Plus, using foundation instead of concealer is sometimes better under your eyes, as it doesn't crease the way many concealers do.

Another easily multi-use product is your lipstick; you can use it on your lips and then dab a bit on the apple of your cheeks and blend, eliminating the need for blush. If you're really in a time crunch, but still want to do your brows, you can swipe a tiny bit of mascara onto your brows to fill them in. Just don't go crazy if your brows aren't very dark.

You can absolutely still look good on a time budget. You just need to plan, prioritise and a third P that stands for the using your products multiple times step.
