Prior yesterday, NCC executive Pantami revealed that network suppliers will be needed to cross-check all telephones International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) and status on a proposed Centralized Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) also called Device Management System (DMS) prior to permitting a gadget to get dynamic on their organization.
The order asserted the move was to abridge the fake cell phone market, debilitate versatile, telephone robbery, upgrade National Security, ensure customer premium, increment income age for the public authority, decrease the pace of grabbing, moderate the utilization of taken telephones for wrongdoing, and work with impeding or following of taken cell phones and other keen gadgets.
Notwithstanding, Nigerians have responded to the news, kicked against the most recent arrangement that they won't present their IMEI to the national government.
The IMEI number is a 15-digit number exceptional to each telephone. With the IMEI number, a telephone can be followed and found. Nigerians who kicked against this new mandate promised never to present their IMEI to the NCC under any condition saying that the public authority should follow the desperados and different psychological oppressors causing destruction in the country.
The NCC's transition to begin the execution of the Device Management System (a Centralized Equipment Identity Register) in 3 months.
According to a concerned Nigerian, “We did NIN (National Identification Number), we did BVN (Bank Verification Number), now they want us to drop our phone’s IMEI number. Very soon they would tell us to put Buhari’s portrait in our homes for one reason we don’t know yet. At this stage, anyone that believes in this government needs Bigi Apple to get their senses back!”
