Microsoft has added new features to its Edge browser that prevent "potentially unwanted applications" from being downloaded. The new functionality currently available in the Edge beta is expected to be released to users of a stable version of Chromium-based Edge this month. This feature is not enabled by default, but we'll share how you can enable it in your browser.
A feature called "Block potentially unwanted applications" lets you block adware, crawlers, browser toolbars, cryptocurrency miners, and other unwanted items. The new functionality can be seen in Settings and, to activate it, follow these steps below.
How to Block Potentially Unwanted Apps in Edge Browser?
- To enable the Crapware blocker in the new Microsoft Edge, click menu and go to Settings.
- Click the “Privacy and services” option in the left pane.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the list here. Under Services, enable the “Block potentially unwanted apps” option.
Note: This feature is available to Microsoft Edge 80 users and above. So if you don’t see it, then it means you are running an old version and you need to upgrade to the latest version.
