The annual Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit will be held in Maui County, Hawaii, 3-5 p.m. December. This event will introduce a chip to its next generation, including the Snapdragon 865. The current Snapdragon 855 also announced at the same event last year.
Although details of the new chip remained quiet, it appeared on GeekBench in early August. According to commentator Roland Quandt, the next-generation main chipset is the model number SM8250. The chip should come with a version built into the 5G modem. Roland also said the chipset will come in two variants codenamed Kona and Huracan. Both versions support LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 3.0 flash storage. Must be embedded in the 7 nm FinFet process of TSMC.
It is expected that the chip will come with an updated Adreno GPU and new CPU cores, possibly based on the latest powerhouse Cortex-A75 part from Arm. Qualcomm may also be unveiling the upgraded Snapdragon 8cx SoC, the company’s first dedicated laptop chip. This was first announced during the Snapdragon Tech Summit back in 2018. The chipset brings enhanced CPU, GPU, and video processing capabilities. Although not officially confirmed, we may likely see a new Snapdragon Wear chip for smartwatches this year.
