Earlier, the bulb of our homes will function as the source of the Internet connection, which shows us how fast technology is developing. Philips Lighting, a company based in the Netherlands, has introduced its LiFi technology, a high-quality LED lamp that enables fast Internet connection of the light wave.

It is the world's first lighting company offering lighting compatible with LiFi from its existing office lighting portfolio. Unlike Wi-Fi, which uses radio data waves, LiFi is a two-way wireless high-speed technology that uses light waves to perform the same task. The 30 Mbps broadband connection provides office light fixtures that are activated with LiFi technology without compromising the quality of light.

The LiFi technology is incredible: every light body is equipped with an integrated modem that modulates light at unpredictable speeds for the human eye. The light is then detected by a USB key / LiFi key connected to the notebook or tablet socket.

Thanks to the infrared connection, the LiFi USB card transmits the data to the lamp. This gives you double quality and robust connectivity because LiFi has a 10,000 times larger Wi-Fi spectrum. The company offers Philips PowerBalance gen2 and LiFi lamps compatible with Philips LuxSpace.

According to Philips Lighting, LiFi technology offers benefits over WiFi as it can be used in places where there may be interference between radio frequencies and equipment, or where WiFi signals cannot be reached or are poor. It also comes handy in environments demanding high security, as light cannot pass through solid walls, and a line-of-sight to the light is needed to access the network, thus an extra layer of security is added.
