Professor Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), said the commission had 74 million registered voters in the second week of January 2018.
The president said that this number would be expected to reach between 80 and 85 million by 2019 due to continuous voter registration (CVR). Nigerians have assured that only their voices will determine the general election in 2019 and later.
Yakubu noted that there was a significant improvement in the electoral process since the entry into force of the present commission. He said the commission was not indifferent to the enormous responsibility of holding elections in democracy.
He said that INEC will continue to involve all interested parties to ensure the process involved. The chairman of INEC stressed the Commitment of the Commission to strictly adhere to the deadlines set in the calendar and to schedule the activities recently announced for the 2019 general elections.
