Saudi prince Mohammed bin Salman was revealed as the real buyer of Leonard Vinci's "Salvator Mundi", the New York Times quoted.
The image, sold for record $ 450.3 million, made Vince in the 1500's and describes Jesus in the Renaissance dress with his fingers crossing his right hand.
The New York Times found that the image was paid through a representative, Prince Bader bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Ben Farhan Al-Saud, and many believe that Prince Salman bin, a friend of Prince Bader, funded the program.
Buying was the highest in the world, surpassing the previous record sales of art at auction auctioned by Picasa, purchased for $ 179.4 million.
The purchase by the Saudi Prince is ironically for two reasons: He recently ordered the capture of some of the richest people in the kingdom based on charges of corruption, holding them to Ritz-Carlton, because there is no prison for royal families.
In addition, the image depicts Jesus as "the Savior of the World and the Master of the Universe" (with his right hand raised in the blessing and left holds a transparent rock crystal ball), a belief that contradicts Islam's view of Jesus, the prophet.
Jornal de Arte also discovered that Salvator Mundi would be borrowed to the newly opened Louvre in Abu Dhabi.
The crown princes of Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi are nearby, and the loan is considered an agreement that will strengthen their ties.
