The federal government proclaimed a public holiday on Friday, marking the celebration of the Muslim Eid-El-Maulud.
Interior Minister, retired General Abdulrahman Dambazu, said on behalf of the federal government, according to a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja.
The statement was signed by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, Abubakar Magaji.
He said that Dambazau encouraged all Muslim and Nigerian believers in general to take the opportunity to pray for peace, progress, and unity of the nation.
He also called on all Nigerians to support the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari in their efforts to build a male state and wish a happy party to Eid-El-Maulud Nigeria.
Every year, Muslims celebrated Eid-El-Maulud, the 12th day of the Islamic month of Rabi-ul-Awwal, as the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
