Former Governor of the Cross River Donald Duke in an interview with Dele Momodu for the thisday News announced he would want to run for president in 2019.

Duke, who turned the Cross River State into an access point for tourism in the country, told Momodu that he was disappointed with the criticism he had received during his term.

It is such a distorted mentality that kept us where we were. Lack of great dreams, lack of faith in our ability to build our big cities and compete with larger nations.
Nigerians are naturally brilliant and we have people who give us the strength and influence of China, but we are not ready to change the ways, "he said.

Asked if he wanted to run for president in 2019, Duke said he was, but said his party, the People's Democratic Party (PDP), has decided a lot. He said:

Hey, you want to hear the truth? I really want to run, but my party, PDP, has to decide many things.
Our party is well positioned to win the next election if we can change our style a bit and win the APC for the game itself. We have to take advantage of our experience since 1999.
Despite obvious mistakes, Nigerians can now compare and oppose APC. What do we need to win at the next election? We have to go to the field with their best candidates. We have to learn from the way we choose our players. Nobody cares where you come from. Can you play well? Ready. We must clearly show that we are more democratic.
The area is good but in Nigeria it did not work well. It is time to release the best brain in all parts of Nigeria. We need to galvanize our young people. It will never follow or support us if we can not show how different and how better it is from APC.

Duke told Momodu that if he ran for president under PDP umbrella, he believed he could defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC). He said:

If I get a ticket from my party, I'm sure that with the support of our members and young people in Nigeria who want an immediate return of hope, beat APC.
I'm sure the Nigerians are eagerly waiting for a leader with proven strength and excellence. They will vote in the group if they see such a candidate. And I promise to join my party for the permanent release of Nigeria from recession, oppression and depression.
We know what to do to exploit the potential of our dynamic young people and have the most important gift to everyone, confidence in our ability to bring development to all parts of our great country and to attract our most feared minds in the world. world. Our international friends also hope to support good leadership when they see it. It would be the beginning of the new era in Nigeria.
