HANDLING HEARTBREAK

He's been your friend for years and you both decided to take it to another level. Wow! The moment you have been waiting for. Everything seems to take on a new shape. You pay more attention to how you look, dress and smell. You really need to please him. Don't you? At every occasion, party, meeting, church services etc., you are always together. Everyone is aware that you both are an item. So sweet!

Suddenly, but slowly you start feeling there's a sort of withdrawal. He stops calling you everyday but once in three days. Okay! Maybe he's busy. You cover up for him and shove the thought aside. Subsequently, he starts calling you once a week and then sometimes once in two weeks and at other times, until you call him. You can't hold it anymore so you speak out. He apologises and promisese to change. But the truth is, he never does.
He finally agrees to meet with you after several pleadings that you both need to see in order to sort things out. You are really happy. At least, your relationship will bounce back to life. But alas, you get to see him and he says all sort of trash you can't even understand. Bottom line? He broke up with you!
What? How painful. He promised never to leave you. What happened? How could he?
You cry until you can no longer produce water from your eyes.

Don't feel bad. Yes you loved him. But there's a better person for you. Trust me! All you need to do is get up, shake off the dust, and move on.

I'll show you how.....

1. Delete every trace of him: If you must heal completely, the first thing you need to do is delete every trace of him so you don't get hurt whenever you're scrolling through your phone book and you see his number, or see new photos of him and probably a girl on Facebook.
2. Ensure you eat: So many lose weight when they break up due to excessive thinking, stress, and loss of appetite. Be sure to eat a lot so you don't end up losing weight.
3. Don't be alone: A lot of people do crazy things when they are alone when going through a heartbreak. If you know you may likely hurt yourself, endeavour not be alone.
4. Spend more time with friends and family: People get healed faster when they spend more of their time with their friends and families.
5. Temporarily do away with any romantic song or movie: From experience, I've found out that merely listening or watching a very romantic movie could stimulate thoughts and desires in you. Making you think more of him.
6. Don't be idle: Learn a new trade, a new skill, language or maybe even get a job. Whatever it is you wanted to do before, do it now. Don't just be idle. As the saying goes "an idle man is the devil's workshop".

A heartbreak is more than just an emotional defeat. When your heart is broken, it can feel like the end of the world. But, once you can accept what happened, and prepare to take care of yourself and your emotions, you'll be able to move on and grow past it. One thing to keep in mind is that you will eventually feel like yourself.
