Admit it, friends make life a lot more fun. They are vital to our physical health and emotional well-being. If you have a good friend who treats you like family, you will never want to lose them. In as much as "20 friends can't play together for 20 years", there are some worth keeping for a lifetime. There are several reasons why people don't keep in touch with old friends. It may be because they're miles apart, they have busy work schedules, or they have a new family. Either way, good friends are worth the keep.

Here are few tips to help you retain that friendship even when you're busy.

Save Dates: Saving dates of birthdays, anniversaries, events, etc can go a long way in sustaining your friendship. When you remember special dates in a friend's life, it makes the friend feel special knowing you're thinking about him/her.

Use the phone(call): No matter how busy you are, putting a call through to a friend is very important in keeping such friend.

Use the phone (text): I have tried this several times and it worked. When I haven't heard from a friend in a while, I'd send a short text making the person know I'm thinking about him/her.

Be nice: People are naturally attracted to people who are nice to them. A simple act of kindness like opening doors, paying bills, etc can make a friend want to stick longer.

Use social media: Technology has made things easier. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc., are all avenues of reaching out to friends miles away from you.

Return favours: This is one easy way to retain friends. It's simple. If a friend buys you lunch today, return the favour by buying him lunch tomorrow. That way, the bond between you both grows stronger.
