ABSTRACT
An online Library Management System is a system that aids in taking records of books in the library. The motivation of carrying out this project work is to help the academic institution to through the use of software acquire the needed academic materials, store and maintain record them. The problem with the manual record is that there is frequent loss of books and poor record keeping. The Software application involved in this project will benefits the academics institution as it provides functions that enable them to know and keep records of the frequently used books, safe guard the books by keeping record of its where about in the software database, provide key catalogue or index to facilitate easy access and retrieval of books. The implementation of an online management System for books in a library using Visual Basic Programming language will improve the speed of access and retrieval of books in a library and will drastically reduce the loss of books from the library.

CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION
The human has an infinite capacity for invention and an insatiable desire for discoveries. A library is a collection of books and non –books materials arranged in an order for use. The emphasis is on the word ‘USE’ because if a library collection is not for use, then it is not a library. Some materials found in the library are Newspaper, Journals, Magazines, manuscripts and non –book materials such as films, tapes, photographs, compact disk and computer software. All these materials are controlled manually.
The library catalogue occupies a central place in locating books and other information materials. A library catalogue is a descriptive tools that tells you about a book in details before you come in contact with the book itself.
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
There are rules governing the library to ensure proper library usage. Single user may not be allowed to borrow more than three books at a given period for security reasons. Borrowers are expected to return borrowed materials within a short period of time from the date it was borrowed. Books at the reference section are not given out to anybody.
1.2 OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY
The main reason of this project work is mainly the implementation of the center for management development, library catalogue and circulation library system. This program will aid the library to take records of their users and the books that will be going in and out of the library.
1.3 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The library right from time carries out their duties manually. The poor rate of information system has lead the library into not getting the vital information, the above described system as practiced has failed to meet the requirement of their users.
The software provides a super control account and password for the user. The software will help in keeping an accurate record of the books in the library.
1.4 SCOPE OF THE STUDY
This study covers the concept of an automated stock record that will control the use of books with much emphasis on standard implementation to the problem of most library. The study covers creating an effective automated system for library so as to automate the manual method that is currently being used.
1.5 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The benefit is that it is complete library software that is being designed so as to lessen the work load of the librarians; it is also an electronic storage processing and retrieval.
They will prevent the breakdown of the newly developed system.
1.6 LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
The difficulties encountered in this project research are
(a) Time constraint: in the course of the study, time posed as serious problem. The duration given for the conduct of this project was short.
(b) Information constraint: it was very tedious to gather information about the library and about their mode of operation.
1.7 DEFINITION OF TECHNICAL TERMS
1. Circulation Library: A library whose books can be borrowed
2. Catalogue: A complete list of items for examples books.
3. Circulation control: A system of checking the sending around of books for examples from one person to another.
4. Overdue: past the due time for return arrival.
5. OCLC: Online computer Library center.
6. Milieu: the environment of the background.
7. Acquisition: The act of getting something especially knowledge.
8. Sub-routine: A set of instructions which repeatedly perform within a program.
9. Mobile library: A can or truck that contains a library and travels from one place to another so that people in different places can borrow books.
10. Book worm: A person who likes reading very well.
