Nigerian Army declares victory over IPOB

The Nigerian Army said it has successfully curtailed the activities of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra in the South East while clashes between farmers and herdsmen within the region had been prevented by troops in the past two weeks.

Providing an update on Exercise Egwu Eke II (Python Dance II) the army further said the activities of kidnappers and other criminals had been checkmated in the region while scores of people had been arrested and handed over to the police for prosecution.

The army was however silent on the whereabouts of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB who was alleged to be on the run after a siege laid on his compound in Aba, Abia State.

The United States Government has said it does not consider the Indigenous People of Biafra a terrorist organisation.

Last week, the Federal High Court in Abuja gave a judicial backing the executive order of President Muhammadu Buhari, outlawing the group and its activities in the country.

The court granted the order to proscribe the group on Wednesday.

It declared that the activities of the group constituted acts of terrorism.

The Federal Government also accused France and the United Kingdom of aiding IPOB activities.

The spokesman for the American Embassy in Nigeria, Russell Brooks, told SUNDAY PUNCH on Friday that the US government does not view IPOB as a terrorist group.

FG to reveal account details of IPOB sponsors

The Federal Government will be giving the French Government account details of the sponsors of terrorist group, Indigenous People of Biafra, Saturday PUNCH has learnt.



The Nigerian Government had through the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said that France was the headquarters of IPOB’s funding. But the European country on Thursday said it had no knowledge of IPOB’s presence in France.

‘Nnamdi Kanu abducted or probably killed’ – Lawyer

Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the lawyer representing the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has alleged that his client was abducted by military operatives on September 14 and probably killed.

Ejiofor made the allegation in a statement on Tuesday issued in reaction to insinuations that Kanu has gone into hiding.

The statement as reported by Dailypost reads in part:

“I have no doubt whatsoever that stories making round that my Client has fled outside Nigeria, were planted to divert attention from their murderous raid on my client’s house.

Police arrest 59 suspected IPOB members

The police have announced the arrest of 59 suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Abia state.

The police have also confirmed the death of an officer after an attack by members of the now outlawed group.

Anthony Ogbizi, the state police commissioner, who stated these, also said the suspected members of IPOB, recently arrested, would be prosecuted for murder, arson and other related crimes.

Ogbizi disclosed this at a media briefing where he paraded seven of the suspected members of IPOB at Ariaria police station in Aba.

Nnamdi Kanu petitions UN, US and Russia over army invasion

In letter addressed to Office of the United Nations Commissioner for Human Rights, Palais des Nations CH-1211, Geneva 10, Switzerland, a team of IPOB international lawyers based in US and Nigeria have petitioned UN, US and Russia over the invasion of Nnamdi Kanu’s residence and the recent tension in south-East Nigeria.

The group also claimed Nnamdi Kanu’s rights to freedom of speech, association and religion, has also been violated. The petition seeks the intervention of the UN human rights arm in the crisis in South-East Nigeria. The team of the US-based lawyers led by Bruce E. Fein, W. Bruce DelValle, alongside their Nigerian-based Attorney, Aloy Ejimakor, approached the UN human rights on behalf of the IPOB leader, IPOB members and pro-Biafra agitators.

Following the clash between IPOB members and the Nigerian army, which led to civil unrest in Isiama Afaraukwu community in Umuahia, where Nnamdi Kanu’s father is the traditional ruler, Youths in Umuahia under the aegis, Umuahia Youth Movement, have issued a 24-hour ultimatum to Abia state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, to dethrone the father of the leader of the now-outlawed secessionist group IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu or they would take the laws into their hands by dethroning him, stripping him naked and burning down his palace.



The Youths further called for the continued stay of the military’s Operation Python Dance in their community, as they claimed that if the soldiers are withdrawn, IPOB members would attack them and rob residents of the community of their belongings.

There’s been more casualties from the alleged ‘war’ between Imo Youths who are fighting against the demolition of the Ekeukwu market, and the demolition squad allegedly dispatched to market by Gov. Rochas Okorocha.

It was also gathered that the market leaders had before now, reportedly sued the Governor over plans to demolish the market, a lawsuit they allegedly won. Sources claim that the demolition of the market which is reportedly as old as Imo, is against the alleged judgement passed in court.
