MTN Network Shut Down in Kogi State, Millions of Subscribers Lament

The state government of Kogi is at risk of endangering MTN just as the presidential elections in 2019 are key.

The state government closed the premises of a telecommunications company after filing a tax evasion by the Tax Administration  known as Internal Revenue Services (KIRS) for past 72 hours and counting.

KGIRS officials were said to have broken into two hub sites in Lokoja on Wednesday morning to shut down the power generating sets and seal the sites. At least 107 sites in Kogi, Edo and the Federal Capital Territory have been affected by that action.

President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, created a problem for him in the South-East zone of the country.

During his presidential campaign in Enugu, Buhari disclosed that Amaechi promised the people of South-East that his administration will construct a railway linking their region to the Northern part of the country.

According to Buhari, fulfilling the promise made by Amaechi would be difficult because the minister didn’t submit any proposal of such to the Federal Executive Council. He, however, assured that people that he would convince the Federal Executive Council members for the project to be approved.

A man has div@rced his wife and he explained to BBC Hausa that he did so because she insists on voting for Buhari in the coming presidential election.

Abdullahi Yada’u, a resident of Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State, told BBC Hausa Service on Thursday that he divorced his wife, Hafsat Suleiman, because she insisted on voting for Mr Buhari.

He tried convincing his wife not to vote for the incumbent president and when he didn’t succeed in convincing her, he divorced her.

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday, 24th January 2018, forwarded a proposed New National minimum wage of N27,000 to the National Assembly.

Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, confirmed this when he read President Buhari’s letter on the floor of the Senate during plenary.

The letter further noted that passing the bill on time would stabilise the economy as Nigerian workers have been looking towards solving the Labour crisis.

Uganda bans sports betting

Uganda’s president, Yoweri Museveni has banned sports betting and that no new licences should be issued to companies nor renewing of permits for the existing ones.

According to Minister of State for Finance, Mr David Bahati, the President gave the directive saying that gambling has diverted attention of the youth from hard work.

“We have received a directive from President Museveni to stop licensing sports betting, gaming and gambling companies. The President has now directed the board which has been regulating them. From now onwards, no new companies are going to be licensed.

ASUU strike continues as lecturers meeting with FG ends with no agreement

Another meeting between the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) ended on Monday night without an immediate resolution of the ongoing strike.

The meeting which held at the Federal Ministry of Labour headquarters was to find a lasting solution to the ongoing strike by the university lecturers.

At least six other meetings have been held between both parties before Monday’s since the strike commenced on November 4.
