You will no longer be able to register or purchase a new SIM card on MTN, Glo, Airtel and 9mobile according to the latest NCC guidelines.
The latest NCC directive suspends the sale of SIM cards while authorities check their compliance with the registration guidelines. He did not say how long the exam would last.
“Mobile network operators are hereby directed to immediately suspend the sale, registration and activation of new SIM cards until the audit exercise is concluded,” the Nigerian Communications Commission said in a statement on its website.
MTN, the West African country’s biggest wireless operator, said it had complied with the directive, according to a notice it sent to customers.
Failure to comply with this directive will be met with strict sanctions, including the possibility of withdrawal of the operating license, said NCC.
We don’t know how long this will last but for now, no more sim registration or sales.
