Today is jump day on February 29th and Google celebrates it with a jump doodle. February 29th adds an extra day and occurs once every 4 years. The month, which is usually 28 days, has an extra day to fill 29 days.
Google wrote on its official website while celebrating the day;

Today’s Doodle is jumping for joy on Leap Day, the 29th day of February that only occurs about every four years, to keep our calendars in alignment with the Earth and sun.

The Leap year was introduced by Roman emperor Julius Caesar after who the Julian calendar was named after. Leap Day also helps keep calendars in alignment with the Earth and the sun.
The Earth takes approximately 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes and 45 seconds to complete revolving around the Sun. The Gregorian calendar has only 365 days in a year. To collect this, an extra day was added once every four years. Google doodle was specially designed to mark this day. The next leap year will be in 2024.
