Netflix has confirmed that it will launch a new subscription plan that only allows users to browse content on their mobile device.
The mobile device plan has been tested in several countries. The plan allows you to view the desired Netflix content, but only on a smartphone or tablet at once, not on a TV or via a streaming device (such as Roku) or on a PC or laptop.
In a letter to investors published yesterday, the company described Netflix mobile-only plan as “an effective way to introduce a larger number of people in India to Netflix and to further expand our business in a market where Pay TV ARPU (average revenue per user) is low (below $5).”
At the moment we don’t know what Netflix mobile-only plan pricing will be but the test runs it performed earlier had it at 250 rupees ($3.63) per month.
The company said its mobile-only plan will initially launch in India, although it could expand into other markets where the average revenue per user for Pay TV is lower than $5. We don’t know yet if it could expand into countries like Nigeria after the initial test in the Indian market.
But this will definitely be an effective way of increasing more subscribers base with a cheaper price. Would you subscribe to this Netflix mobile-only plan if eventually launched in your country?
