7 Ways On How To Be A Successful Corper

Been successful as a corper has been a story most of us needed, but the question is what can we do to succeed in this mission called nysc which stands for National Youth Service Corps. See below some steps to take to be a successful Corps.

1. SET GOALS

Don’t be among the multitude with the mindset of I can’t wait to get this over with. It’s obvious that their one year is already a waste even before they start, except they change their mindset. Talking about setting goals, don’t be among the kind that wants to be the next ‘Aliko Dangote’ within a year! I mean set realistic, smart, measurable and attainable goals with time-bound. Put these goals in written and make it something you see every day probably paste it on a wall where you can see it often and make a serious plan on how to achieve your goal. Like said make your goals a realistic one.

Here are some examples of goals you can set;

1. Acquiring new business skills 
2. Work out 
3. Apply for certification programs for your CV 
4. Staying healthy 
5. Improve your interpersonal relationship skills 
6. Having new friends 
7. Savings etc. 

The list is endless just think of something in line with what you want and set the goals for yourself.

2. CREATE A BUDGET LIST

The best thing you can do is to make a budget list for your allowance, although the money may not be much, this is going to show how serious you are with your life. If you can manage your current allowance then you can manage your salary or income when you start working for yourself. The truth is; it’s no secret that money can be a big deal when mismanaged.

3. MAKE FRIENDS

As the popular saying goes; ‘the best time to make friends with a king is before he became a king’ the truth is, the opportunity most people are looking for is actually a person. Once you’ve determined what your life is going to look like after your service year or the kind of success you want during your service year. It’s then left for you to plan on how to make connections in regards to that, and when I mean connection, I actually meant friends. This might be your fellow Corpers or the local resident of your place of primary assignment.

4. BE GRATEFUL

Be grateful for what you have and where you are. The act of gratitude is one of the best ways to remain bless. Be thankful on your allowance knowing fully well that this is just a phase in your life and being also convinced that your level is about to change. You just have to be grateful for the little you have before you can have more. Another way you can live a grateful life as a Corper is by keeping a journal and makes it a commitment each morning or night to write down at least one thing you are grateful for. By doing these, you will be able to stay focus and positive even when things are tough out there.

5. INVEST IN YOURSELF

There is no investment better than the one you invest in yourself, and you have a whole year to do that. Get books and read, go for seminars, apply for a certification program, start an apprenticeship and get business knowledge the list is endless just do something. Trust me if you can make a commitment and discipline yourself to play less and study more for the remaining months you have in your service year, your future ‘you’ is going to thank me later. See, you have the remaining years to yourself.

6. CHALLENGE YOURSELF

The best way to do this is by stretching yourself. Get out of your comfort zone and do stuff bigger than you, if all you’ve been doing are what you can easily do then you are not growing. These are normal routines for most Corpers… they get up in the morning, they eat and go to their school, if its school. Come back home and sleep, then wake up and hang out or gist comes back home again, then eat and sleep. These are what most Corpers do for their entire year as a Corp member. This is obviously not going to help you in any way. You just have to do things that are beyond your comfort zone or difficult things and if you fail don’t worry about it. You learn by failing and once you can achieve that, set ahead for tougher things to do. This is how you grow and succeed in life.

7. MOST IMPORTANTLY STAY HEALTHY

You can’t achieve any success without a sound health. So the more reason you have to have a sound health. Eat good food, keep fit, have fun with friends and do a constant check up on your health. Staying healthy is going to help increase your productivity, keep you motivated with higher confidence and high self-esteem and trust me before you know it, you will see success knocking at your door.
